Against the Wind

Art, Recovery, Politics, Spirituality and Other Stuff
that You Aren't Supposed to Talk about in Polite Society

Welcome to Against the Wind. The blog's title has nothing to do with Bob Seger.  I just know, as a person in long term recovery, that for me, standing still in life is akin to moving backwards. It's like being on a boat in a head wind, I keep paddling, in hopes I won't end up drifting back where I came from.

You've found your way into the repository of the things I have written about, mostly in brief, over the last several years.

This has become kind of a workshop. I curated most these posts from my social media and on occasion, I plan to open them up and go a little deeper when the spirit moves me. Until then, I think there's some decent stuff in there already.

A quick disclaimer:

I have been suspended by Facebook three times. All three suspensions were about something I wrote that I thought was very funny. Facebook, however, saw these posts as  "below their community standards". On further review,  they were probably right.

Additionally and frankly more bothersome, I've lost some friends, thanks to my social media postings ...I've hurt some others who were kind enough to stick around anyway and...I have, on a few occasions, embarrassed my wife.

None of this is good so, I have decided to start dumping my stuff here, where nobody will see it by accident.

So be warned...If you decide to read on, it's on you. I'm no longer forcing my opinions (or my sarcasm) down anybody's throat. I may from time to time, post a link to this site on Facebook, or some other social media but if you've come this far, just know you can still leave, before it's too late!

More disclaimers:

I will sometimes change the names to protect the guilty and I'm not above "coloring up" a story from time to time, to make it more readable. I try to be as honest as possible but a little exaggeration once in a while, never hurt anybody.

2. I'd love to write a book. I already know the title, "Dangerously Overconfident - A Memoir".
But, I lack the discipline to write a book. So instead, I write stuff doesn't take any longer to read than it takes the average person to take the average crap.

3. I'm starting this project by mining stuff I've already put out on social media so if you've seen it before, sorry.

4. Lastly, you should know that I voted for right wing republicans for 20 years until one day I had an awakening of sorts and became so liberal that I actually voted for Bernie Sanders in two presidential primary elections. If you don't like my point of view,  don't try to change my point of view. Just wait until the next cataclysmic event in my life rewrites my perspective.
